A Heartfelt Farewell from The Karing Home Youth Project

Dear Friends and Supporters,

It is with both gratitude and sadness that we share an important update: as of July 1, 2025, the Karing Home Youth Project (KHYP)  made the difficult decision to dissolve as a nonprofit organization. Our team took some time to process this. Here are some of that processing that I'd like to share with you:

This decision was not made lightly. For years, KHYP has walked alongside young people experiencing homelessness in Otsego County, offering safe spaces, resources, and a vision for brighter futures. Together with you, and our community, we provided not just services, but hope.

Unfortunately, despite the passion and commitment of our team, board, and supporters, KHYP faced ongoing challenges that became insurmountable:

  • Financial Sustainability: Limited grant funding, sponsorships, and donations in the last year has made it increasingly difficult to support our programs at the level our youth deserved.

  • Community Climate: Like many organizations addressing complex issues such as homelessness, we faced divisive times and challenges that limited our capacity to grow and expand.

Rather than compromise the quality of services we believe young people deserve, our board has made the decision to sunset KHYP.

We want to take this moment to say thank you. To our donors, volunteers, and community partners: your support made a real difference. To the youth we served: your courage and resilience continue to inspire us.

At the end of our fiscal year 2025 (December 31, 2025), all remaining funds held by The Karing Home Youth Project will be distributed to a local nonprofit organization with a mission of assisting young people with adversity and homelessness.

While KHYP will no longer continue as an organization, the impact of this work will ripple forward. Our community has been changed because of youβ€”all of you who believed in this mission.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

With gratitude,
Kari Jo Stefanski, Founder & Executive Director and The KHYP Board of Directors
